Scout Fest 1999

BY: Mrs. Carden

"Scoutfest" is April 16-18. It will be at the Aiken County Fair Ground. Boy Scouts can camp out 16 - 17. Each troop and pack is to set up a booth, preferably a hands-on display rather than a static one.

At Scout fest they will be selling meal tickets for $14. That will cover all meals.

At Scoutfest you are required to set up a model campsite as it is described in the BSA Handbook. This means the really nice camp site you put up for camporees. Also your troop display is to be in your model campsite.

Summer Camp 1999.

by: Mrs. Carden

This year troop 162 is going to have the best summer camp experience available.

Our first year scouts will go to Camp Lynwood Hayne. The program there focuses on activities that will help them to advance to First class. All is done in the morning. After lunch they

then will take merit badge classes. We will sit down with the first year campers and help them plan their own schedule so that they will maximize their time and guard against trying too do to much and get none of it finished.

Between now and camp there are many things we need to do. Our troop wears T-shirts that are unique to troop 162. We will need your scout’s T-shirt size by June 1.

Our main concern is that all our scouts pay their camp fee early enough to get in at the lowest price, $125. Scouts who have their camp fees paid in full by June 15 will get the lowest price.

There is no need for civilian clothes. Their is not a need for more than three changes of clothing, except for scout sox.

Current plans are to "cross over" our webelos 2 on June 4. You will receive updates as they become available. Check-in time is 2 PM Sunday, July 4, 199. We must check in at the same time.

Our older scouts are going to Camp Skymont. We leave on Saturday July 17 and return the 24 Th.

Parents, your Son’s fees must be paid in the Cherokee Area Council Office by April 30, if we are to get the lowest cost.

I have noticed that most not all the T-shirts are getting very small. As in the past years only scout uniforms are to be worn while in camp. We will also need to travel in them for insurance purpose.
